O’Franken – Model for Marginalized Radio
Remember this?
The hype of election 2004 has long passed it seems, and now we find ourselves pulling up to the one year mark from the frenzied campaign days of 2004 and the radio network created solely to oust Bush from office. Since that time, my own predictions regarding the Air America network seem to be right on target, putting the O’Franken factor squarely where it belongs – in the side margin with the likes of Michael Savage. So – the O’Franken factor remains as unoriginal as it is un-enlightening, and Michael Savage continues his gloom and doom “life in the old days” approach to cleansing all of Manhattan. Fine – let them.
I was looking at the NYC talk radio ratings numbers for the latest quarter, and Franken and Savage sit right about where they should based on the demographics that share their views. Franken and Savage are personalities that bring up an occasional salient point amidst a host of angry ranting and breathless negativity (remember the Charles Grodin show?….please don’t…). My prediction goes forward that they will continue to enlighten and entertain the marginal few who gather their current events knowledge from the Daily Show and numerous Area 51 forums.
As irritating as they are sometimes, Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity continue to clobber Franken in the ratings…..oh..except for those 18 year olds who listen to talk radio in their cars at 7 in the morning.
